With a documented family history of ten generations, the Golechha family has always lived in Khichan, building their current Jain settlement of Havelis centuries ago. They were iconic businessmen and traders, also becoming social stalwarts through their various charitable undertakings and contributions to the development and welfare of Khichan and its people. The family's homes have always been open to friends, family, tourists, and passersby alike, for a helping hand, a place to sleep, a warm meal, or simply a cup of chai and some banter.

 

The story of Khichan is one that our family always enjoys narrating with pride. Our ancestral home is a set of traditionally built havelis in rural Rajasthan a few centuries old. We spent a lot of time there as children, visiting our grandparents and living a completely different life. Our relationship with the place has evolved with time, but we continue to visit it often, as an escape from the harshness of modern urban life, and as the home that brings us all together.

What we call home is remarkable in its architecture, vivid in its culture, nourishing in its food, colourful in its clothing, sweet in its song, generous in its nature, strong in its rootedness, open in its heart, pioneering in its mind, devoted in its service, and loving in its people.

We may age from being playful children to frailing adults, but the idea of home outlives us, and will always remain timeless. A place of life and stillness.

As part of the effort to carry forward this legacy, we founded Golechha Heritage - an entity dedicated to the architectural and historical conservation of family legacy in rural Rajasthan. We are creating an extensive family archive by documenting artefacts, objects, oral histories and even traditional recipes. 

Golechha Heritage is now conducting Khichan Heritage Walks every winter season, which take guests on a historical, cultural and architectural immersion through the streets of Khichan. It is a chance to explore the crowning jewels of Khichan, with a local Marwari delivering this historical legacy with global refinement, to you.
